Aiming to reach as wide an audience as possible, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, has talked to journalists, medical groups and even actors to spread the word about how to prevent coronavirus. This week, he talked with Girls Trip and The Last OG star Tiffany Haddish, and the results were entertaining and informative. Read on to see what he said, and to ensure your health and the health of others, don't miss these Sure Signs You've Already Had Coronavirus.
You Can Catch and Spread the Virus Just By Talking—and Singing!
"It's a respiratory-borne virus," said Fauci. "So it is transmitted from one person to another, by very microscopic respiratory secretions. And this is important that I think people don't understand that certainly could be from coughing or sneezing—but it could even be from talking because what we're seeing now—and singing even more than talking. And that's the reason why you saw all those people in the church, in the choir who got infected. So the way you prevent that is by what we keep talking about is a mask and physical distancing. Because if you stay a certain distance away and avoid crowds, yeah."
"You know, to be honest with you, Tiffany, the things that so-called 'boost the immune system,' when you do really good clinical studies, it doesn't really help much unless you have some sort of a deficiency. Like if you're vitamin D deficient, you just work hard all the time, you don't get outside. Then taking vitamin D is good. If you want an antioxidant, Vitamin C, but a lot of these herbs that claim to boost your immune system in so many respects, either do nothing, or if you take too much of them, they harm you. The best way to keep your immune system good is to just lead a healthy life, get good sleep, exercise. Those are the things that are so much better than a bunch of herbs that really have never really been shown to do that."
Dr. Fauci Said We Need to Protect the Vulnerable
"We really need to make sure with vaccines and even with therapy that we protect the people who are vulnerable," he said. "This is a virus that is very confusing because of all the viruses that I've ever had experienced with over the last 40 plus years, I've never seen a virus that has such a range of 40% of the people don't even know they're infected. They're completely without symptoms. Some have minor symptoms. They don't even miss work, but they should go home not to protect, to protect others. Others get symptoms that they go to home for few days, others are in bed for weeks and it takes a while to recover, some go in the hospital, some go in intensive care, some need ventilators and some die. So it's amazing. How are you going to have the same virus does nothing to many people, usually young people, but can kill other people?"
